Saturday was the final ground school class with the scout group and home schoolers. A survey of Airspace, then a completion of cross country flight planning. This group of boys had never heard of a slide rule, much less a circular one, and were AMAZED at how a couple of pieces of cardboard with tick marks known as an e6b could compute things for them.
They picked it up pretty fast though. I was impressed. Far faster than when I first learned how to use one of those whiz wheels. Before long they were quickly measuring, plotting, and computing their courses, times, wind correction angles, fuel burns. Very nicely done.
After we were done and put up the tables and chairs we talked a bit. Several are planning to go on with training, want to take the written. I asked them to keep in touch. We'll see how it works out for them. I wish them the best of luck.
