Last night I finished watching the Jim Henson's "The StoryTeller" DVD. I will recommend this disc to anyone. Everyone should see the disc at least once. The stories are all based on old and ancient fairy tales. The special effects are all Henson Studios animatronic/puppet based and VERY well done. The series was made back in the mid 90's and only 3 episodes aired here in the states, there are 9 episodes on the dvd. Check it out if you get a chance. You won't regret it.
Friday night I downloaded and installed mysql and php on a test box here at the house. Now begins the journey to learn these two products. I have the beginnings of a website that I started last year that's written in asp and talks with an access database. I decided I wanted to go for a more os independant codebase for the website, hence the php instead of asp. And we all know that Access just isn't designed for much concurrent loading like a website will experiance and so the mysql enters the equation. I browsed the net and found some quick tutorials on php and mysql and it is starting to come together a little. I have one more tutorial I want to look through and then I can probably port my old pages over from asp to php. I don't have much done there yet, and what I do is pretty rudimentry database work, mainly just reading things from tables... you know, the simplest things to do in datbase work...
Saturday I sat with Ceal and we watched the snow fall. We don't get much snow where we live and to have 2 to 3 inches of it on the ground was certainly a site to see. It was fun watching the neigborhood kids playing out in it. By noon the temp had climed to above freezing and everything started to melt. This morning there's a bit of refrozen white on the lawns, but for the most part, it is but a fond memory of Valentines day, 2004.
I wonder what today will bring...
