The last day of the year, we tried to set up a quick breakfast meet with some friends but only one would rise to the bait. The winds were forecasted to be cross today, and getting crosser as the day goes on.

Up at 6:30 and I check, 220 at 7kts. I can handle that. we'll be back before 10 when it's forecasted to get really strong, and it's suppose to swing more to the north by then. A call to Walt and he's going to meet us at LNC for breakfast at the diner on the field. I head to the airport, pulling the weather on the way, it's looking still like what we are planning. Shouldn't be much of a problem, just keep that wing down into the wind on the landing and it'll be okay.

A VERY cold preflight in the wind later and I'm sitting in the cockpit waiting on Kathy to arrive. Soon she's here and she loads up and we are off. Not bad, a pretty big crab to hold the runway centerline once I'm in the air, but I can fly this. Off we go to Lancaster. The wind has swung just a little for them so I land on 31 and taxi to parking. Just tuck the wing, lots of rudder left, a last second gust pushes me just off my centerline but it's okay. We touch down on one main, then the other and we are soon taxiing to parking. We shut down and start to get out when the line guy yells to us that the diner is closed this morning for new years eve.

hrmmm. We thank him, sit back down and think. Well, let's head back for a take off and see what Walt wants to do when he gets here. We hear Walt call 6 miles out and since we are the only two planes even thinking about moving at LNC I call him back on the radio and advise him of the situation. Come back to Rockwall (F46) with me, I'll take you to breakfast.

He makes a low pass above the runway and we are soon rolling and off forming up with him as we head to his home field. He takes a few pictures and we talk on the air to air frequency and soon we are setting up for a landing. The wind is a bit stronger here, about 10 kts direct cross on the runway. Tuck the wing, work the rudder and hold the centerline. Nice landing made and we park in the transient parking.

Good landing Walt tells me, he was surprised what it took to keep the comanche on centerline. A good breakfast and a lot of laughs and we are soon back and in the plane. The takeoff is interesting, but not too bad and we are soon heading back around the class B to GKY.

10 miles out we call up the tower and they clear us for a straight in on 34, winds 310 at 10 kts. Piece of cake. We call them again at 5 miles and the winds are now 320 at 17 kts, still workable. Drop the wing, run the rudder and the centerline is mine while I wheel on one main at a time again. Taxi back to parking and the last flight of the year is done.

This is fun folks. :)
