It was Walt's fault....

I really had no intention of flying today. Didn't have anyone to meet, the winds were slated to pick up quite a bit by afternoon, and I thought the plane was booked solid all day.
Then Walt logged in IM this morning. We talked a bit about my checkride and he asked if I was going flying anywhere today? I told him no, nobody to fly with, no place to go...
Never say that to Walt. A few short minutes later and I see that there is a block open on 2niner7 and Lancaster is just a jump away. We set up to meet for breakfast at 10:15. To the airport and Mishca's there. He accused me of dodging him on the way to my checkride yesterday so I stop in and visit for just a minute. We talk a bit about the checkride and he wants to take a picture of me at the plane with my temporary certificate. He asks where I'm heading, out to breakfast with a friend. He leaves grinning.
Preflight is done and the plane is started, talking to ground, and he asks if we are going to let the wings on the plane cool down today any. Apparently Mischa had just gotten back before I got there. With a grin I tell him possibly, but a bit later and I'm cleared to 16. The wind is 170 at 11 kts, not bad and I'm soon off. For a change the runway stays fairly centered beneath me and I'm off and out to the east. I transition across Red Birds airspace, talking to them for a few moments, then I'm off to Lancaster.
Who in this part of texas builds a runway 13? That's guaranteed to have a crosswind almost all the time. Must have been a CFI who planned this place. The pattern is dead so I fly a straight in final. A bit windy, a bit of a challenge and I'm rolling it on one wheel as I plant it in the wind, then the second, the the nose, missed the first turn off, but got the second and I'm parked. Nice little flight.
Walt arrives a bit later with his daughter and granddaughter, both pretty young ladies and I've got great company for breakfast while we talk. Thanks for picking up the tab Walt!
Out to the planes and the wind has picked up a bit, gusting and Walt waves me on ahead of him. He just wanted to see how bad I muck up the crosswind takeoff I think. It's a little challenging because I've let it roll on a bit longer than I should but I'm soon off the runway and climbing out. I head west while Walt heads east, saying our goodbyes.
Back to GKY, this time dodging a bit south of Red Birds airspace, then cutting north around the radio towers I'm calling GKY's tower over the marina. In the pattern and I'm #2 to land. Wind 170 at 17 gusting 30. Fun... The skyhawk drags it in and is down, making it off the runway, he's done for the day and now I'm number one. 180 at 16 gusting 25 now. It's a bit bumpy on the way down final but I've flown in worse, I grab the centerline and hold it, easing it on and rolling one tire, then the other and I keep the nose up to slow down, feeding in the crosswind aileron.
Missed the first taxiiway turnoff, but have the second, I'm instructed to taxi to parking with the tower. Got to have your crosswind correction in when you are turning, or the cheetah just won't turn in the wind we had. Parked and tied down I'm entering it in the book...
Bet you thought you were done with these now. :)
Sure, it was Walt's fault, but I'm glad he talked me into breakfast this morning. My first breakfast run as Private Pilot. This is cool folks.

PS I'm still grinning about this....
