Hrmmm.. I saw this over on CNN this morning.

I smell yet another attempted power-grab coming. To cloak this as a means for medical neccessity is outrageous. If I were one more prone to conspiracy theories an argument could be made that his plan of using the military to enforce segregation of the population in case of an "outbreak" of avian bird flue fits right in the formula.

Still, conspiracy or not, this would be a bad move. It is putting far to much power in the hands of one man in this country. Yet again we seem determined to travel down a very slippery slope.

Just my thoughts this morning...

But at the same time, he got slammed for not sending the military in for local law enforcement immediately after Katrina. He can't win.

I agree with you, that suggesting using the military for this is a bad idea.. but it never stops astounding me how many people that apparently fell asleep during their government class.

I will agree. Being President means you are often caught in no-win situations.

But, I would have hoped that the President would have been awake in his government class. In no way did the founding fathers want the goverment military to provide local law enforcement. By putting local law enforcement capibility in the military's (as well as the President's) hands we move ever closer to a police-state form of goverment.

Depending on who you talk to, there is question about whether he even ATTENDED his government class. (sarcastic grin)

Absolutely, its scary... If something were to happen, martial law might be the only way to keep order under a panic/pandemic situation.. but it should be a last resort.

The borders are US borders. Is it not the military's job to protect our national borders. If terrorists sent a landing craft to California, who do you call? The Manhattan Beach PD?

I think sending the National Guard is wrong, it should be active duty military.
