So there! The problem I ran into with the scanner class in my java project last night turns out to be a bug. Sun knows about it, Prof acknowledges it, and turns out several folks are experiancing and and didn't figure out how to work around it in their code. Something happens sometimes that ends up generating bad bytecode and the work around I did to pach around the weirdness I was experianceing last night won't count against me. :)
