So the visit with the good optometrist a week or so ago yielded interesting results..

he said...
Yes, your near vision is going soft.

Yes, your distance vision is worse.

You aren't QUITE at the point I'd put you in progressives/bifocals....

What? You spend a lot of your day in front of a computer?!

What he had me get were two pair of glasses...
One for normal wear/distant vision.
One for wearing at the computer or reading.
Mostly because I work in front of a computer in my day job.

From my first take on them, the ones for distance vision aren't that much better than my old ones, but it often takes time for my eyes to adjust to new glasses. I have noticed that with them my near vision is worse, especially on the right side.

The second pair? I don't quite know what I was expecting from them, of course the distance vision is off in them, but they are good enough I COULD drive home in them if I had to. Wouldn't like it, but I could do it, but the near? Books are better (thankfully) and my macbook pro? Much better. I haven't been to work with them yet, but I'd be willing to bet my office monitor is better.

This switching thing though? I can see it getting old. He did say that most likely in the next 8 to 12 months I'd probably need the progressives/bifocals. Though I'd probably really like the second pair a lot if I spent a much of time in front of a screen.

Am I happy with them? The jury is still out. The near vision ones, pretty much, the far, not so sure, the two glasses thing, really not sure... The perils of getting older I guess.
