my two tapes from Whitehouse Books came this evening. I've alredy wached the Canemaking with Lino.. He makes it all look easy. The tape is about 30 minutes long. good stuff. It's not a step by step but there are still lots of things to pick up from it. It shows him making a couple of canes and pulling them. Then he walks through a vase that uses multiple cane pickups. All very cool, if advanced, stuff to me.

Now watching the Bill Gudenrath 150 minute tape from 1992. Lots of furnace noise makes it hard to hear whats being said, at 30 minutes in on it and have already seen things I've not seen before. I think I see a solution to a couple of my problems already from it. He starts out going through the pieces he teaches in his first semester class. What he spends 12 weeks teaching folks to make... Good practice pieces. all teach something new.

The rest of the tape is amazing. At least to me. From there he goes on and makes piece after new piece. The tape follows all the steps. If it is time compressed during the demo, I can't tell. All the timeing seems right. Do you run, or want to run a one person shop? Watch Bill on this tape.

Too much to absorb in one viewing. I'll be watching parts of this tape again and again.

The tape is broken up in a couple of sections. The first one is 58 minuets or so long, then he goes into the Dragon Stem Goblet section. Really cool piece.

If you are a new glassblower and could only buy one tape, I'd
recommend the Bill Gudenrath 150 minute tape.... Lino's tape is good, and there are some tips there, but for pure approachable mainlining of information for newbies go with Bill. Bill's tape is a good addition to Ed's book.
