I got back to the hanger in Ennis with David today...
the first I've worked on the plane since shortly after I started my lessons..
David had lost interest, frustrated, gotten stuck....

so today, we were going to try to figure out how to mount the top wing of the triplane today...
I racked my brains last night, trying to figure out how we could float that wing and get it aligned so we could work on the struts (that attach the wings together)

I came up with a cradle that I thought would work, easy to build out of the scrap lumber we had at the hanger... it took us about an hour and a half to construct them and then we sat the top wing and went to leveling one side of the plane.. the struts went in well and easy and David was high fiveing.

A good day, we got all the struts on the left and right wings done. A total of 8 struts we cut to tie the 3 wings together(these will be flaired together to appear as a set of solid units on each wing). There are 4 more struts that attach to the upper wing that come in to the fuselage. Those we'll do next weekend. But the wings are mounted and square! No washout!

After the center struts are in place (about 2 hours work I think) we'll rig the flying wires for the wings and then can start setting wing ribs. All 96 of them.... (WHY did he have to want to build a Fokker TriPlane DR1)

It's still a long way from being done, but a big step took place today. Best of all, David is enthused about the project again, it'll move forward now...

We'll see if we can get those other struts in place next weekend...

yeah, a REAL good day today
