another longtime goal accomplished
May. 31st, 2007 04:40 pmAs of 1:10 pm Central time, I became the FAA's most recent Advanced Ground Instructor.
Up early this morning to take the 100 question written and fretted while it was scored and printed out. Uneasy during the wait, I was sure I'd made dozens and dozens of simple mistakes. I came out as a pass with an 89. Not bad, not great. I've got the area codes for what was the problem, I'll focus more on those.
Then a call to the local FSDO and I was off by car to talk with the FAA. Being buzzed through the door and getting a security pass was something new for me, but it is a government facility after all I guess. I talked with the FSDO representative while he typed up my paperwork and we filled out the forms. Nice guy, pilot all the way. The FAA wasn't quite as scary as I had anticipated them being. A grin and a handshake and I was soon on my way.
I've got one friend that wants me to help him through his written before he locates a CFI and starts to fly again. My old CFI has said he wants me to think about what it would take to either do a written prep class, or a full ground school that I could offer through him. I've some other ideas of what I may be able to do.
Still, it's done, a long haul of study and a successful completion. Time to reward myself with Ernest Gann's Fate is the Hunter before I get started on my IFR written.
