It seems that some universities are requiring entering freshman students to read a book over the summer term before their fall semester starts. I thought that sounded like a good idea. However it seems that some of the colleges seem to be concerned...
College officials thought assigning freshmen a full book to read over the summer for a brief discussion would be unfair to working students, said Maria Dyer, director of the first-year experience at Bloomfield College.
What is this about? Unfair for working students? If an incoming freshman can't find time to read ONE book over a 3 month span, how are they ever going to make it during the fall term? I work full time plus as a network admin and take 6 hours a semester. Reading one book in 3 months is unfair to working students?
